Arrival at London
London was terrific! We stayed in a terrific hotel in South Kensington which had a tube station less that a five minute walk away. The London underground tube network is great and it is easy to get around. Matt and I have both been surprised about how good value everything is, we are fortunate that the Australian dollar is strong at the moment and the British Pound is fairly weak. On average one GBP is worth around $1.60 AUD. Accommodation has been affordable and eating out in London is great and excellent value, because of the extras included with each meal. English breakfast’s are great and filling and it is not uncommon to have a complimentary croissant when you order a coffee.
The sights of London are grand and majestic, and it is easy to find yourself imagining what London was like and has endured throughout history such as the Black Death, the Great Fire of London and the continuous heavy bombing by the German Luftwaffe during the madness of WW2. It is surreal to walk past and into buildings that stood during these events, some of these structures being over 500 years old.
London pubs are warm and inviting and lavishly decorated and lined with old timbers. One noticeable thing about London is that everything is original and unchanged; the Brits are great at preserving their heritage and past.
The photos are of Piccadilly Circus.
