St IVES – CORNWALL
Maggie and Derek took Matt and I down to a seaside town in Cornwall called St. Ives. You cannot help but be overwhelmed by the age of all the buildings and laneways. St. Ives has quite a large community of artists and there are many galleries located in the narrow laneways. We visited the Bernard Leach Pottery and purchased a few small pieces. After the Bernard Leach pottery we visited the Barbara Hepworth sculpture gallery which was her house where she lived in St Ives. It still had her studio where she formed various sculptures from materials such as bronze, timber and marble. There is large block of marble which has been partially chiselled away, the artists final piece of unfinished work before she died in a fire in her house.
