For those of you who have worked with Matt and I at JAS, you will recall the ritual Matt used to undergo upon arriving at work at the flying school every day, this would usually involve Matt walking through the front door, greeting whoever was at the front desk, then conducting his ritualistic patrol of each lecture room, checking on each student in the rooms that they were dutifully applying themselves to their pre-flight planning or study tasks, shortly after you would then hear the purposeful thud of each of Matt's footsteps approaching the front office. It was here, that each day, without fail, Matt would next do either one of two very peculiar and amusing acts, despite the audience, and on most occasions, the more people occupying the room, the more spirited the performance. One of these particular performances was of a British reporter doing a documentary for the history of the Supermarine Spitfire, the aircraft that conquered the skies above Europe in WW2.For those of you who haven’t previously seen the short clip, have a look at it before viewing the one we filmed, at Eastleigh, Southern England....yes! We actually drove to the actual place in the United Kingdom, but unfortunately couldn’t find the exact field; therefore a soccer field had to suffice. Putting all the shenanigans aside, it was a nostalgic experience being in the very place where the first spitfire prototype was test flown. Oh, Matt's second peculiar performance was turning up loud Kurt Cobain's "Lake of Fire" singing along to it, then going off to do his day's flying. WARNING - There is some rude language at the end of each film clip.
